MTU/Crawford College of Art and Design Application Process
There are some important changes to our admissions process and to tell you about a resource we have developed that may be useful to you in the classroom or when advising students who are interested in a creative career.
We have amended our CAO application process in two ways:
This year, we will be asking applicants to submit a digital portfolio and guidelines relating to this are available on our website's "apply" section:

The courses that require the submission of a portfolio are: BA Hons Contemporary Applied Art; BA Hons Fine Art; BA Hons Photography with New Media and BA Hons Visual Communications.
We will now allocate places on these courses, based solely on the portfolio score, rather than on Leaving Certificate points. Once applicants have met the basic requirements for matriculation - Leaving Certificate in six subjects i.e. H5 in two subjects, and O6/H7 in four other subjects (the six subjects must include English or Irish), it is the portfolio score that will determine whether or not they are awarded a place.

This includes information on our undergraduate and postgraduate courses and how to apply for them, as well as videos of recent graduates talking about their career pathways through and after college. You can also find details of our online sessions, within CIT's "Open Fortnight" programme, on the website - your students can join us on Wednesday 25th November, from 5.30 to 8.00 pm, for presentations on our programmes and the opportunity to ask questions.
The comprehensive PowerPoint which provides details on all of the programmes offered at the Crawford can be used as a resource for art teachers to TY, 5th and 6th year class groups. The graduate profiles and video clips provide invaluable insights into the creative process from the perspective of Art & Design students and the content of the presentation is navigable in such a way as to allow art teachers to select sections that will support general learning as well as being of direct interest to pupils considering a career in visual arts and/or creative media. This content could be used within a series of linked lessons to support pupils in their research into contemporary art and design practice and in documenting information within the pages of their sketchbooks or workbooks. The presentation will support Guidance Counsellors in advising students whose interests include creativity, making and designing, art and/or media.
