LYIT Funded Postgraduate Research Masters Opportunity in Fire Safety Engineering


An MSc research bursary has become available in the School of Engineering at Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) commencing in the new academic year 2020/21. This President’s Research Award presents a new opportunity for a graduate to undertake a funded two years Masters by Research programme. The project will be in the area of Fire Safety Engineering and the project title is: 

“An investigation into evacuation software models and their ability to simulate the evacuation of children from schools”


Padraig Gallagher, Head of Research and Innovation at LYIT says; “The President’s Research Awards represent a significant investment in research by LYIT and will contribute to the knowledge economy and innovation base in the North West. The awards provide a fantastic opportunity for highly motivated individuals to work in a dynamic research environment.

Research Masters Supports:

 By undertaking a Masters by Research in Fire Safety Engineering at LYIT, not only will you receive a Level 9 qualification, but you will also receive:

  • A stipend of €10,000 per annum for 2 years. Programmes fees will also be waived.
  • Structured and Accredited Research training/support.
  • Dedicated Research workspace and Laptop.
  • This is a funded Research Masters, therefore normal programme fees of €5,000 per annum do not apply.
