Lir Academy Updates
As we prepare to to round off our last semester and enter summer break, we are all go, go, go at The Lir Academy!

We are in the last stages of accepting applications for a number of courses - including our Bachelor in Stage Management and Technical Theatre, as well as all our MFA programmes in Theatre Producing, Stage Design (Set, Costume & Lighting), Playwriting and Producing.

We have a range of short courses still taking bookings, ranging from Musical Theatre, Screenwriting, Introduction to Dance, and more. We also have our summer short courses now accepting applications.

The Backstage Club

The Backstage Club is back! Join us at The Lir Academy and have a great night out with cocktails, a show, cabaret and dinner with a difference. All proceeds from this event go towards supporting Stage Management and Technical Theatre bursaries. Come be part of our crew for this unique event and help us celebrate our students.
Doors open and cocktails from 6pm.

Show 1 - Arcadia by Tom Stoppard, directed by Hilary Wood starts at 6.45, finishes at 9.15pm
Show 2 - My Sister In This House by Wendy Kesselman, directed by Joy Nesbitt, starts at 7.30pm, finishes at 9pm

Come dine behind the scenes post-show and enjoy the cabaret, fun and drinks until late!

Short Courses

Our summer schedule of courses for adults and teenagers are available to book now. There is something for everyone this summer, from Intro to Acting, Intro to Dance, Musical Theatre, and more!

Our Fundamentals of Acting course is back! Designed for people who are starting their journey of exploring acting and actor training. This twenty-week course covers a wide range of techniques, including Auditions, Acting for Camera, Movement, Voice and Dialect, Characterisation, Scene Study and more.

We are hosting Introduction to Acting courses across the country, including Galway, SligoKilkenny and Limerick. This weekend-long course gives you an introduction to what it would be like to study acting at The Lir Academy.

Or get your dancing shoes on and join our Introduction to Dance classes to learn the basics of some of the world’s most famous and favourite dances. Sample the exotic rhythms of Tango one week and find yourself immersed in a crazy Charleston the next.

Introduction to Acting - Regional Weekend Workshops

Locations: Galway, KilkennyLimerick, Sligo
Course Begins: Galway 11th May / Kilkenny 25th May / Limerick 15th June / Sligo 29th June

Instructed by leading Lir practitioners, this course is the perfect opportunity to experience studying at The Lir Academy and what the daily routine would be like.

Introduction to Dance
Course Begins: May 13th
Duration: Eight Weeks, 7pm - 9.30pm Monday Evenings

Designed for people who have never taken a dance class before, our instructor will teach not only the basic moves but the styling and rhythms of each dance so that at the end of the eight weeks, you will have the confidence to take to the dance floor.

Musical Theatre
Course Begins: May 13th
Duration: Ten Weeks, 6.30pm - 9pm Monday Evenings

If you love musicals and want to have a go yourself but don’t know where to begin, this course is for you! 
We offer adults with a passion for musical theatre an opportunity to develop the fundamental techniques required to perform in Musical Theatre.

Fundamentals of Acting
Course Begins: May 18th
Duration: Twenty Weeks, 10.30am - 5.30pm, Weekends

This weekly Saturday course will introduce students to the fundamentals of acting techniques for stage and screen. Taught by The Lir Academy's experienced tutors, you will learn the core skills every actor needs. 


Vacancy - Lighting & Sound Teacher Support & Facilities

We are seeking a person with lighting and sound technical skills to join our team. Working with our technical and facilities departments, and the wider team, you will support the delivery of our technical courses and play a key role in the day-to-day running and maintenance of our building and technical resources.

This full-time position is an ideal role for someone with passion for theatre and working with students. This role will provide support to the technical department of lighting, sound and AV as well as Lir events and facilities department.

The Lir at Work

The Lir at Work is our communications training programme for people in the workplace. It's based on the performance preparation techniques that we teach on our acting programmes. We run sessions for groups from organisations or scheduled classes for individuals to join.
