It has been a major week for jobs with @IDAireland supported companies announcing over 1,000 positions across the country since Monday.
Martin Shanahan, CEO of IDA Ireland said “This has been a fantastic week for IDA client companies that have announced jobs across the country - it shows that Ireland remains attractive for foreign direct investment. It wasn’t just about Dublin either as regional locations will benefit from the announcements including Cork City, Enniscorthy, Galway City and Tuam.”
On Monday, OpenText, a company specialising in enterprise information management announced 105 positions for their Cork office.
On Wednesday, ClearStream Technologies, a medical device manufacturer announced 200 roles in its facility in Enniscorthy, Co.Wexford. Later that day, IDA Ireland announced 400 jobs with eight clients at an event in the National Museum in Dublin which brought together the IDA clients attending the @WebSummitHQ. The IDA Ireland event filled the museum with over 300 guests and was attended by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD and Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD. IDA Ireland's favourite rock star Bono also joined us to celebrate. The 400 jobs were located across the country, including Dublin, Cork and Galway.
On Thursday, Amazon's Chief Technology Officer Werner Vogels invited media to the company’s new premises in central Dublin to celebrate 10 years in Ireland, and also to announce 300 highly skilled jobs in the areas of software engineering and customer support – amongst others.
Finally, today (Friday) saw the announcement of 140 jobs for Tuam, Co.Galway from the automotive supplier Valeo.
Shanahan added “It was particularly important for the IDA to showcase the strength of Ireland’s offering during the Web Summit when so many international visitors were in Ireland engaging with our economic story first hand. Also, this week, Ireland had 1,324 journalists from 70 countries in Dublin attending the @WebSummitHQ - many of whom we're visiting Ireland for the first time. It was important for international media to hear the positive news coming out of Ireland right now.”
