Tomas you may be aware Euroguidance is a network of national resource and information centres for guidance in 34 European countries. Its main target group consists of guidance practitioners in education and employment, among them professionals who provide information and guidance on international learning mobility to end-users seeking studying and training opportunities abroad. Euroguidance Ireland, a member of the Network, is hosted by the Irish National Centre for Guidance in Education (NCGE). We hope that you find this update useful and of support to you in your role and we encourage you to take part in the activities mentioned and access the resources provided.

Here schools were introduced to a range of newly developed and free to use resources from both NCGE and Euroguidance Ireland.

Mobility in Europe & ‘Access Europe’ Resources
13th October

This webinar focused exclusively on ‘MOBILITY’; with input from the HEA, FET representatives and QQI, amongst others. It gave attendees an overview of:

  • The mobility opportunities available to students and where to access more information about them. 
  • The tools available to support mobility 
  • The organisations in Ireland that support mobility (working and learning throughout Europe) 
  • How to engage in a mobility experience for YOUR own CPD

Euroguidance Ireland
‘Careers with Languages Competition’

Tom, to celebrate the European Day of Languages, (Saturday, 26th of September), NCGE/Euroguidance Ireland, in collaboration with Languages Connect, launched a COMPETITION for ALL senior cycle students.

Closing date – Friday 23rd October 2020

Each student will be asked as part of entry to nominate a Guidance Counsellor or Teacher that we will communicate with regarding their entry. Students can win an Interpreting workshop for their class as well as an iPad for themselves. All the while, developing valuable career management skills by completing their Europass profile! 


Euro-Quest ‘Ambassador Programme’

Taking things up a gear, Euroguidance Ireland will now give schools the opportunity to become recognised ‘Euro-Quest Ambassador Schools’! This programme provides a framework and incentive for schools to raise awareness of the value of mobility – for TY students and the whole school community.

Simply complete 3 x tasks:
1. Complete the 4 x Euro-quest modules 
2. Complete a Europass profile 
3. Complete one other activity OF YOUR CHOICE (ideas provided)

The programme will ideally be led by a Guidance Counsellor, in collaboration with colleagues. Each school will be rewarded for their effort and participation upon completion of the programme.

Celebrate Europe’ (Promote Mobility)

With ‘Eramsus Days 2020′ on the horizon (15th -17th October), why not mark these days in some way with students? This resource contains 27 ideas to celebrate Europe and promote educational mobility within the whole school community!

NCGE/Euroguidance Ireland have created the following short video to assist students and the Guidance Counsellor through the steps required to complete a Europass profile, CV and Cover letter.

NCGE/Euroguidance Ireland have launched a series of PDFs to support Guidance Counsellors in providing information on specific European Countries in relation to studying abroad.

NCGE/Euroguidance Ireland have also created a number of other resources including short videos, worksheets etc. to promote mobility within the school community. These resources can be used in the guidance class, during College Awareness Week and other careers related events, when attending college open days / virtual days etc.



Euro-Quest was formally launched in March 2020. Since then, over 1100 students from TY classes all around the country have enrolled. We are delighted with the positive feedback we have received so far. This resource is ideal for use in class or as part of your virtual guidance delivery!

EURES Ireland are running a series of live chats every Friday to answer questions regarding EURES, job search in Europe, returning home from abroad etc. There will be a different ‘subject’ every week, but all questions in relation to European work mobility are welcome. See EURES Facebook Page (title link above) for further details.

>>Career Guidance for Social Justice

A group of career guidance researchers and practitioners have developed a website that features short pieces on CG and social justice. These take the shape of reflections, commentaries, and brief articles. The site also presents case studies where practitioners describe their effort to promote social justice in their daily engagement with citizens in a variety of contexts. >>NICE Survey

The NICE Foundation is asking you for your support in completing an international survey for career professionals. As part of the EU-project STRENGTh, they are trying to gain a better understanding of the social and emotional challenges that career professionals face across Europe. Based on this information, they want to develop innovative training offers. All Irish Guidance professionals are invited to participate. >>Time to Move 2020

Time to Move is running across Europe in October. It informs young people and those who work with them about opportunities to work, study, train and volunteer in Europe. The campaign also provides useful local contacts in the areas of Youth and European Information. Hundreds of activities await participants in many European countries, including Ireland. All are free and listed by area on the Time to Move website (title link above). Youth Work Ireland (Tipperary) have an event that might be of interest on Oct 21st.

Orla Ní Cheallaigh is the Eurogudiance Officer in NCGE. In this role Orla promotes the European dimension of lifelong guidance and learning mobility. Through practical support, resources and information and CPD provision; Orla aims to equip you with the knowledge to better understand and capitalise on the opportunities available to you and the people you support within the wider European context.
