Tell Your Local Primary School about the STEPS Young Engineers Award 2023/2024
Empower students with engineering and innovation
Help us to empower young students with confidence, innovation and engineering by encouraging your local primary school, or your children's primary school, to take part in the STEPS Young Engineers Award. You can forward this email with all the information to the principal or 3rd or 4th class teacher.
Registration is open for the Engineers Ireland STEPS Young Engineers Award! This is a competition for 3rd and 4th class students, where students design an engineering project, in teams, that will have a positive impact on their community.
The competition is aligned with the STEPS Volunteer Engineer Programme, and teachers have the opportunity to request an Engineer Role Model to visit their class to get feedback on the projects.
Teachers do not need to have any engineering knowledge – the project is student-led through the detailed step-by-step instructions in the STEPS Project Book. There are many resources available to ensure students and teachers are fully supported on their journey, including featured resources from Mark the Science Guy and Muinteoir Valerie.
Students thrive working in teams to conceptualise and construct their very own engineering project. All the material is curriculum aligned and integrates well with SESE, environment, maths and English subjects. The STEPS Young Engineers Award also meets the criteria to be included within Step 3 of Science Foundation Ireland’s Curious Minds Award.
