Earlier Issue of Leaving Certificate Appeal Results 2019 Advisory – Impact on the Organising (Viewing) Superintendent.
As you are aware, the State Examinations Commission (SEC) will be issuing the Leaving Certificate Appeal Results in the week commencing 16th of September 2019. This much earlier issue date represents a significant improvement for candidates particularly those awaiting the outcome of their appeal to secure a revised offer through the CAO process
The purpose of my letter at this time is to advise you of the impact of the earlier appeal results issue date on the Organising Superintendent whose role it is to arrange the script viewing sessions in schools. This is because the earlier appeal results issue necessitates earlier Viewing of Scripts and an earlier appeals application deadline. School authorities need to be aware that those nominated to the role this year must be available for a number of days during the period Wednesday 14th August to Saturday 24th August inclusive.
Following the release of the 2019 Leaving Certificate results on Tuesday 13th August, candidates will have until close of business on Friday 16th August to apply to view their scripts. The viewing of scripts will take place in schools on the afternoon/evening of Tuesday 20th August and during the day on Wednesday 21st August. To facilitate these new arrangements, scripts will start to arrive in schools from the afternoon of Tuesday 13th August. Candidates will then have until 5PM on Thursday 22nd August to complete their appeal application.
Following the conclusion of the Viewing in schools, the Organising Superintendent will be required to arrange for the return of scripts, which are the subject of an appeal, to the SEC in Athlone. To do this they will be required to bring the scripts to one of a number of designated regional locations and will have until lunchtime on Saturday 24th August to do so.
The SEC intends to facilitate the new arrangements through an on-line system. Candidates will use the on-line system to apply to view their scripts and the Organising Superintendent in each school will receive digital communications from the SEC containing the details of Viewing and Appeal applications for candidates in the school. Those nominated for this position will need an e-mail address and a basic level of technical competency in order to fulfil the duties associated with the role. In support of these new arrangements, training will be made available in May to all nominated Organising Superintendents and further details of these arrangements will issue later.
The SEC will issue the applications for these positions in March and appointments will be made based on the nomination of the school. School authorities should ensure that those that they intend to nominate to the Organising Superintendent role will be available between the 14th and the 24th August and have the required skill set to fulfil the role. (Note that Organising Superintendents will not be required each day between the 14th and 24th August but do need to be free to undertake the role for a number of days over the course of this time period).
As we near the dates for the examinations, the SEC will provide school authorities with further updates on the new arrangements and this will include information specifically for the attention of candidates, parents and guardians.
The SEC very much appreciates your ongoing co-operation and assistance in these matters.
