Volunteer Engineers Needed to Visit Primary Schools!
Become a Volunteer Engineer Role Model with STEPS
It's back to school time and that means the launch of the STEPS Young Engineers Award for 2023-2024!
Thousands of 3rd and 4th class primary school students take part in the competition every year - where they get the opportunity to design an engineering project from conception to completion.
The best part of the programme for the students is to present their projects to a real engineer during Presentation Week, and get encouraging feedback.
We need engineers, retired engineers, student engineers, all engineers, from diverse backgrounds to visit schools taking part.
The visit is simple: you tell them about your experience as an engineer and they tell you about their projects! And they get to ask you questions... which is always memorable! ("What's the best tractor?").
It's a fantastic experience to inspire the next generation of engineers, show them the opportunities they have, challenge yourself and give back to the engineering community. You also earn lots of CPD credits!
To volunteer you must attend ONE workshop in the academic year of your visit. These take place in early September. They are 1.5 hours long and we think they're great fun! You will learn about the programme and what resources we have to support you. Importantly you will learn about the current Child Protection guidelines. You can attend the workshop with no obligation - applications take place after the event.
