Applications Open for MSc Loss & Bereavement Courses

We are now accepting applications for our two master's courses: MSc Loss & Bereavement and MSc Loss & Bereavement (Clinical Practice). These are Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) courses run in association with Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF). They are designed to equip professionals who encounter bereavement or loss in their roles with the core contemporary knowledge and skills to provide appropriate grief supports in their communities, workplaces, and professional practices.

Applications are invited from professionals working in healthcare, social services, counselling, education, HR, and other roles where emotional well-being and compassionate care are essential.

About the Courses

Through the MSc Loss & Bereavement programme, participants will gain practical strategies, theoretical insights, and professional competencies to better support patients, clients, employees, and the broader community in times of loss. This programme offers two distinct pathways:

MSc Loss & Bereavement (Clinical Practice): The clinical practice pathway is for those working therapeutically with bereaved people. Participants on this course will be mental health professionals, such as counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists, and social workers.

MSc Loss & Bereavement: The second pathway is a general education route for participants who work in areas of bereavement care, including health, education, management, policy, and support.

Open Evening

Attend our online Open Evening on Thursday, March 27 at 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. You will meet some of the lecturers and a past student, as well as the programme director and support staff. You will be introduced to the library and other resources, and receive information about the programme outline, assignments, and timetable. There will be space for your questions at the end.

To apply for the MSc Loss & Bereavement and MSc Loss & Bereavement (Clinical Practice) commencing September 2025, please submit your application on the RCSI website. The application deadline is May 31, 2025.
